Record a home-test expiry as printed; do not invent an extension

Preserve the pack entry

A home-test research note should retain the expiry information on the actual item and identify the product precisely. FDA’s home-use-test material is a starting point for learning about this product category, not a blanket extension of any kit’s expiry.

Match any additional notice

If you encounter a maker or regulator notice, check whether it actually identifies the same product and relevant lot. Keep the original expiry and the notice as separate records. A headline about an extension for another item cannot be transferred to yours.

Do not certify usability

This site has not examined a kit or verified an extension for a particular lot. If correspondence cannot be established, record the uncertainty and use the applicable instructions and appropriate professional channels. This article offers a documentation workflow, not permission to use an expired item or a result-accuracy guarantee.
