Read the report’s fields together
MedlinePlus explains reference ranges in its guide to laboratory results. Preserve the test name, result, unit and range printed on your actual report. A number copied without its unit or the report context is not a complete result.
Avoid substituting another webpage’s range
If you are preparing a question, attach the original report rather than replace its reference information with a figure found online. A personal transcription should be labelled as such. Mark unreadable or missing fields instead of guessing from a similar test name.
Keep interpretation separate
This article does not classify a result as normal, diagnose a condition or recommend treatment. The responsible professional can consider the report alongside the relevant context. The reading task is to preserve the original information accurately so the clinical question is answerable.
